There’s reception in many parts of the trails, but expect occasional dead zones. The signal may suddenly drop out or switch between 4G and no service, especially in deeper valleys, sections through laurel forests and more remote mountain areas.
Practical tips
You’ll have a good Wi-Fi connection at the hotel in the evening. You’ll receive the login details at reception.
Luggage transfer is available as an optional extra. You’ll only need to carry a small day bag, while your main luggage is transported from hotel to hotel.
If you have items you won’t need during the hike, you can leave a small bag with our local ranger on the morning of day 2. They’ll return it to you at the end of your trek in Cappadocia.
If you don’t choose luggage transfer, you’ll carry your large backpack with you every day. So make sure you don’t overpack and keep your load as light as possible.
On The Cappadocia Trail, you’ll always start hiking the day after you arrive. For example, if you book the week of 11 to 18 September, you’ll arrive on 11 September and start hiking on 12 September.
Our departure dates already include both your arrival and departure days. You don’t need to book any extra days to complete the trail. Of course, you’re welcome to stay longer if you’d like to explore Cappadocia or Turkey at your own pace.
You can add an optional hotel night in Kayseri for your first night. In this example, that would be the night of 11 to 12 September.
You can still add this extra night to your booking up to 2 months before departure, subject to availability.
Example: week of 11 to 18 September
In the Travelbase App, you’ll see this period as your full stay.
Yes, you can get to know your fellow travellers two weeks before departure via the official group chat in the Travelbase app. Due to privacy legislation, we do not share personal contact details, but you can, of course, exchange details amongst yourselves during the trail.
Before departure, we'll provide you with a detailed packing list, so you'll know exactly what to bring.
Hiking Gear
Good hiking shoes are essential in Cappadocia. Choose a pair that you feel comfortable in for several long hiking days. We recommend hiking shoes in category A/B to B/C with good ankle support, as some sections are steep, rocky, and uneven.
Identification
Cappadocia is part of Turkey, so you don't need a passport. A valid ID card is sufficient. Just make sure that this ID card is valid for at least 3 months.
For departures on Friday and Sunday, you can optionally add flights through Cappadocia Trail. We don't offer flights on Saturday, but you can easily book your own flights.
We currently don't have the necessary flight schedules and prices yet. In the booking form, you can indicate whether you're interested in booking flights through us. Once they're published, we'll keep you posted, and you'll be able to choose whether or not to add a flight.
There are several ways to get there. You can either book your flights through us or arrange your own flights. Please note: both options have a limited number of places. Even the “no flights” option can fill up. Find more information here.
Your family can contact the main Travelbase office line to pass on any urgent messages. Our office staff can then inform the guides or rangers via a satellite phone.

That’s generally possible, depending on availability. Keep in mind that there may be an additional charge. For specific options and prices, it’s best to get in touch via info@travelbase.eu.
Cappadocia is located in central Turkey and has a drier, continental climate. That usually means sunny days, but also significant temperature differences between daytime and evening, especially at higher elevations.
In May, the weather is usually ideal for hiking, with pleasant daytime temperatures and cooler nights. You can generally expect around 20 to 23 °C during the day and about 9 °C at night, with the occasional shower.
In September, the days are often still warm, while the evenings and mornings remain cool, especially early in the day. Temperatures are typically around 25 to 26 °C during the day and about 10 °C at night.
In October, temperatures drop noticeably and the nights become cooler. During the day, it is usually still very pleasant, often reaching 17 to 21 °C, while temperatures can easily fall to 7 to 10 °C in the evening.
So make sure you bring layers, as well as something warm for the evening and early morning. The wind can make it feel even cooler.
No, unfortunately, dogs aren’t allowed on this trail. Looking for an adventure where your four-legged friend can join you? Be sure to check out this page.
The Cappadocia Trail is a self-guided trail. This means you'll be doing the trail completely on your own, but with support from our ranger on spot. We'll take care of the practical side for you, so you can mainly hike and enjoy.
Before your trip starts, you'll get access to our Travelbase App. In it, you’ll find all the routes, highlights, and practical info. Each day includes clear descriptions, navigation, and tips to ensure you're well-prepared, even in changing conditions.
This is how your week will go:
You will also be given access to a chat group with all the other participants departing on the same date just before you set off. You can use this group to chat with each other or with our ranger.
For meals provided by local people, we can cater for dietary requirements if you let us know in advance, but for freeze-dried meals (food packs), we recommend that you bring your own food. As all freeze-dried meals are processed in the same facility, cross-contamination with allergens cannot be ruled out.
High-top hiking boots are mandatory. Low-cut walking shoes, running shoes, trainers, or other low-cut footwear are not permitted. The terrain is often uneven and challenging, so high-top hiking boots are required to provide adequate ankle support and reduce the risk of injury.
