Frequently asked questions

When is the trail taking place?

The Cappadocia Trail takes place in May and September. You can find all the exact departure dates in the calendar below

  • May 2026

From May 1 to May 31, there are departure dates on Saturdays.

Where are you sleeping?

During The Cappadocia Trail, you’ll stay each night in Stone Houses or Cave Hotels, where you can truly unwind after a solid day of hiking.

Every evening, we provide double rooms, with either one double bed or two separate beds.

Are you travelling solo or is your group an odd number? Then you’ll share a room with another participant in separate beds. We always try to room participants of the same gender together.

What about food and drinks?

During the trail, you’ll enjoy local Turkish specialties.

Every day you’ll be offered a delicious breakfast and a (optional) packed lunch. We also provide a vegetarian option, but unfortunately not a vegan one. Everything is lovingly prepared and served by the families hosting us.

Along the way, you’ll come across a few small bars where you can buy a cold drink or a snack. After a solid day of hiking, you can enjoy tasty Turkish cuisine at one of the local restaurants near our accommodations.

You can refill your water bottle at the accommodation each day.

How are the hikes organized?

The Cappadocia Trail is self-guided. This means you can hike the trail completely on your own. We take care of everything to make this hike successful. Everything is organized for you, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.

Just hike and enjoy, that's all you need to do.

Weekly itinerary:

  • An experienced ranger will give you a detailed briefing on the first day of the hike. After that, he will send you daily briefings via message.
  • Then you’ll start hiking independently on the accessible and balanced route we’ve set out for you.
  • In our app, you'll find an overview of all routes and important information for each day, allowing you to hike completely on your own.
  • Your hotel accommodations are reserved for you.
  • You’ll receive prepared meals for breakfast and lunch, so you don't have to worry about cooking (if you chose that option). For dinner, you can check out the local restaurants nearby; the guide will give you some recommendations each time.
  • Additionally, our ranger is available to help you if needed. You can reach him throughout the trip to ask questions.
Do I have to carry my backpack?

Luggage transport is available as an optional extra. That way, you only need to carry a small day bag, and your main bag will be transported from hotel to hotel.

If you have items you won’t need during the hike, you can leave a small bag with our on-site ranger on the morning of day 2. They will return it to you at the end of your trek in Cappadocia.

If you don’t choose luggage transport, you’ll carry your large backpack with you every day. So make sure you don’t pack too much and try to stay as light as possible.

What should I bring?

What should I bring for this trail?

Identification

Cappadocia is part of Turkey, so you don’t need a passport. A valid ID card is enough. Just make sure your ID card is still valid for at least 3 months.

Hiking gear

Good hiking boots are essential in Cappadocia. Choose a pair that feels comfortable for several long hiking days. We recommend hiking boots in category A/B to B/C with solid ankle support, as some sections are steep, rocky, and uneven.

Before departure, we’ll also send you a detailed packing list, so you’ll know exactly what to bring.

What is the size of the group?

This is a self guided trail, so you won’t be hiking in one fixed group led by a guide. You hike at your own pace, following the route information.

That said, if you’d like to walk together with other participants, you often can. How much you connect and hike with others is largely up to you and depends on the group you’re travelling with.

There is a maximum of 14 participants per departure date.

Who is this trail for?

Because a trail’s difficulty depends on several factors, we’ve put together a clear overview of those factors.

Anyone between 16 and 65 years old with good fitness and a sense of adventure can do this trail. The trip involves a lot of physical activity, so good health is a must. Also keep in mind that weather conditions can be changeable.

Children are not allowed. Want to go on a hiking trip with your family? Then Hike Tribe is a better alternative.

Want to try a multi day hike for the first time, but unsure about your fitness?

Ask yourself these questions:

  • What kinds of physical activity do I do regularly, and for how long?
  • Have I had any recent injuries that affect my ability to hike?
  • Can I comfortably walk 15 km over hilly terrain?
  • Can I train with a clear goal in the coming months to prepare properly?

If your answers give you full confidence to head out on an adventure, then this trail is definitely for you. One week after booking, you’ll receive a training plan to get you ready so you can complete the route comfortably.

Can I book this trip as a solo traveller?

Yes, absolutely. You can book this trip on your own. Depending on the departure date, there are often other solo travellers joining as well, so you’ll likely meet fellow hikers along the way if you’d like.

Still unsure and want to test yourself before you head out on trail?

Try one of our micro adventures, such as The Packraft Trail.

How many kilometers will I cover in total?

How many kilometers will I cover in total?

Over the entire week, you’ll cover approximately 71 km, with stages ranging from 11 to 18 km per day. The days are well spread out and balanced, offering a good mix between the distance covered and the elevation gain you’ll tackle.

Can I book this trip solo as well?

Yes, it is definitely possible to book this trip solo. Depending on the departure date, there will be several solo travelers on the trail.

Is there Wi-Fi in the hotel?

All rooms have a good Wi-Fi connection. You'll receive the login details at the reception.

What insurance options can I add?

Which insurances can I add?

During booking, you can add two types of insurance to your reservation.

Cancellation insurance

Did you book early? If so, you may fall under our Superflex booking conditions. This allows you to change or cancel your reservation free of charge until 1st of June 2026, without having to provide a reason, and with a full refund.

Still, last minute cancellations can happen. If you’d like to be fully covered right up until departure, you can add our cancellation insurance during booking (€69).

Travel assistance insurance

Want to travel with extra peace of mind? Add our travel assistance insurance to your booking. If something goes wrong on-site or you have an accident, this insurance can help you out (€49).

What is the currency in Turkey?

In Turkey, the local currency is the Turkish Lira (TRY). ATMs are widely available and debit cards are accepted almost everywhere, so there’s usually no need to exchange cash before you leave.

A common misconception is that it’s cheaper to pay in euros (especially in cash). In reality, businesses often apply an unfavourable exchange rate when you pay in EUR. We therefore recommend paying by card or in Turkish Lira whenever possible.

What kind of climate does Cappadocia have?

Cappadocia is located inland in Turkey and has a drier, continental climate. That usually means sunny days, but also big temperature differences between daytime and evening—especially at higher altitude.

In May, the weather is usually ideal for hiking, with pleasant daytime temperatures and cooler nights. Expect around 20 to 23°C during the day and about 9°C at night, with the occasional shower.

In September, the days are often still warm, but mornings and evenings stay cool, especially early in the day. Temperatures are often around 25 to 26°C during the day and about 10°C at night.

In October, it cools down noticeably and nights get colder. During the day it’s still usually very enjoyable, often 17 to 21°C, while in the evening it can easily drop to 7 to 10°C.

So always bring layers, and definitely something warm for the evening and early morning, because wind can make it feel even cooler.
